Four North Wales Operators

Here are four shots of four different North Wales operators, I hope they are of interest.

Two AEC Reliances from the fleet of Clynnog and Trefor Motor Company are seen leaving Trefor and about to join the main road to Pwllheli. In the lead is 276 UVO,a Reliance 590 2U3RA with Willowbrook DP49F body, which was new to East Midland (fleet number C276) in 1964. This was one of a pair acquired by Clynnog and Trefor; they were very luxurious compared with most BET group dual purpose vehicles, with coach seats, six speed gearboxes and coach-style one piece doors. Behind is 255 BKM, a 1956 Reliance 470 2MU3RA with Harrington B42F body, ex Maidstone and District SO255.

Purple Motors of Bethesda operated this Leyland Tiger Cub PSUC1/3 with East Lancs B43F body (389 JTD) which had been new to Lancaster City Transport in 1959. It was used on two routes between Bethesda and Bangor.

ELU 509C was a 1965 Bedford SB13 with Duple Bella Vega C41F body which was used for many years by Whiteways, Waenfawr, on the Caernarfon - Waenfawr - Beddgelert service. The built up destination dome indicates it's origin with the George Ewer Group.

Llandudno Urban District Council bought a pair of unique buses in 1968, FJC 736/7F. These were Dennis Pax V (modified lorry chassis) with B33F bodies built by Dennis. Here we see FJC 736F near St. Tudno's Church, on the Great Orme. The pair were built especially for the service up the Great Orme, which they operated for eight years until they were superseded by a pair of Willowbrook bodied Bedford SBs; the Dennises then operated on the Marine Drive Tours for several more years. One of the pair is now preserved, but wears the original Llandudno livery of maroon and cream, which it never wore in service. The pair introduced Llandudno's blue and cream livery, but the photo shows the later red and grey livery after the Llandudno Urban District became part of Aberconwy Borough Council.
